Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council

The Borough Council recognises the valuable contribution of the VCS, therefore commits to investing annually to ensure the ongoing offer of support and provision to the VCS via The Partnership; including supporting the direct delivery of local projects.

These funds are allocated to small and large projects via the VCS Commissioning Board, which will next take place in Autumn 2018.

Sport in Desford

A Community Participation Project within the village of Desford. The VCS Commissioned project,t HEART SMART, increases motivation and progress with up to 25 Heart Smart patients providing them with a fitbit for recording and monitoring progress during their 12 week exercise course. The outcomes of the project for the beneficiaries are life changing, enabling improved physical and mental fitness through fun, friendship and a range of positive activities.

Markfield Community Association

The Mayflower project is a wonderful ‘flagship’ project that started in 2013. The project covers residents from Markfield, Stanton, Groby, Ratby, Bagworth and Thornton. With funding from the VCS Commissioning Board It continues to meet needs around the over fifty’s and particularly the elderly who are lonely , vulnerable, socially isolated and those with dementia including carers. It also identifies local issues that affect the elderly and offers support and information. The Mayflower club offers a whole variety provision from social fun to current issues and informative activities which help towards a positive quality of life.

LRYSA – Leicestershire and Rutland Youth Sailing

The VCS Commissioning Board has funded the LRYSA to further develop the clubs offer to young people. The LRYSA has strived to ensure all young people get the chance to experience sailing. A new course will be offering bespoke sailing courses to young people who are on the Autism spectrum to experience a range of challenges, build confidence and have fun. This is in conjunction with The Priory School aiming to help support them to thrive and achieve their full potential.

Leicestershire Lifeguards

Funded by the VCS Commissioning Board , Leicestershire Lifeguards Lead Trainer has been able to offer a vital course ‘Save a Baby’s Life’ across the Borough to various groups including, young parents and families, Toddler Groups. Parents will be shown how to deal with a baby choking using realistic baby manikins. The courses will also cover various child ailments. This course will give the parent or responder the vital skills needed at a time when the child’s life depends upon it.

Green Towers

This thriving Youth Centre near Wykin, Hinckley has been supported by the Commissioning Board to offer a Nationally recognised qualification NICAS (National Indoor Climbing Awards) to young people from 7 upwards. The young people can gain skills, build confidence, feel a sense of achievement and have fun in a safe purpose built environment with qualified instructors. To date over 60 young people have achieved Level 1 /2 certificates with many more attending or on a waiting list.

Hinckley Town Tennis Club – Integrating Inclusive Tennis into the Community

This great project has been funded by the VCS Commissioning Board and Won the ‘Dragons Funding Den’ at our last years event. The ‘Achieve with us Group’ (Supporting adults with learning difficulties) enjoys playing tennis at the Hinckley Clubs facilities along with experienced members and qualified coaches. This enthusiastic hard working team have achieved so much in this sport and are now taking the opportunity to play other club members including the young people’s teams during the Summer Holidays. They take part in a number of joint activities whilst gaining confidence, staying fit and having fun.

Next generation is a non profit organisation working in partnership with Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council overseeing the local VCS Forum, bringing all local VCS organisations together identifying gaps in services and disseminating funding via the Commissioning Board to local voluntary and community groups.
