My parents had divorced 5 years ago and dad had remarried. My mum said we had to move to a smaller house in a different area, so I had to move schools as well. I missed my old life.
I'd began to lose sleep at night, but then felt tired during the day. Most of the time I just felt 'out of it’ going through the motions, but not really living. I felt an overwhelming sense of sadness and I wasn't sure why. I was having trouble at school. I knew I should be revising for my exams but couldn't motivate myself to do it.
I found it helpful to talk to someone who takes the time to listen and understand, but doesn’t judge. Eventually we realised I was still mad at dad for leaving and very angry at him for spending more time with his new family than with me.
The counsellor helped me find strategies to reduce my anxieties especially over exams and helped me get into a better work and sleep routine. I learned to stop being too hard on myself. I am sleeping a lot better now and take more care of myself. I’ve made new friends and I feel much more positive about the future.
Counselling really helped me I’d recommend it to other people who have any worries or concerns.
